Tamerat Siltan

With an illustrious career and creative practice spanning over two decades, Tamerat Siltan has established himself as one of the most important artists of his generation, specializing primarily in printmaking. Born in 1975 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Siltan’s sharp eye and continuous engagement with his community is what enables him to portray such distinct and particular subjects in his work. A tireless and highly disciplined artist, Siltan has frequently exhibited his work in Ethiopia, Germany, Romania, Cyprus, Serbia, Italy and more. An avid reader, with a deep passion for indigenous music, Siltan often collaborates with artists across different disciplines and mediums to bring new works of art to life. His artwork often explores the beauties and afflictions of members of the society that are often neglected, such as women and the elders. In addition to being a talented artist, Siltan is a self-made curator who mentors a generation of emerging artists in his home country. He has served as the curator or organizer of the vibrant Red Door Art Gallery and the Fenika Art and Cultural Center. In 2020, he founded and organized the first Addis International Art Symposium, an ambitious event that brought together contemporary artists from over fifteen countries. He is a skilled and award-winning designer, with an impeccable work ethic that allows him to create across multiple disciplines, including in printmaking, painting, graphic design, illustration, sculptural work, woodwork, book arts, and more. Siltan lives and works in Addis Ababa, where he continues to create, inspire, and contribute to the enrichment of his community and the global art scene.

His solo show is forthcoming in our galleries soon.
